Tucked away in Chinatown’s Lower East Side is a showroom of curated vintage designer clothing. The name "Benthos" is derived from the Ancient Greek, meaning "the depths of the sea.” The name evokes the feeling of discovering something for the first time.

At Benthos, clothing is personal. Amy Xu, the founder, is passionate about preserving runway designer pieces and other unique designer memorabilia that embody themes of optimism and functionality from the early to mid-2000s. The collection of apparel and accessories includes cult classics like Prada, Jean Paul Gaultier, Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Vivienne Westwood, and Issey Miyake, along with lesser-known favorites like Kostas Murkudis, Hiroko Koshino, Atsuro Tayama, and Limi Feu. Each item is thoughtfully sourced with a focus on Japanese, Italian, and French designs.
